Tackling Tobacco Odor Starts Here!

Whether from cigarettes, cigars, e-cigarettes or vaping, smoke odors can be a real drag. Let’s talk about how we can keep it under control.

Tobacco smoke has a distinct odor that tends to stick around – and it isn’t a particularly welcome scent to have in your home. Fortunately, air purifiers help with reducing the presence of that odor. According to Better Health, tobacco smoke is a combination of both particles and gases (odor). This means your air purifier must contain filters that address both issues in order to reduce odor. When it comes to the microscopic size of smoke particles and gases, both a high quality HEPA (high-efficiency particulate air) filter and carbon filter is needed.

So, what is a HEPA filter exactly? HEPA filters are composed of thousands of tightly wound thin fibers. This composition results in the ability of capturing ultrafine particles suspended in the air. In order for a filter to be labeled as HEPA, it must meet stringent requirements. For example, the U.S. Department of Energy states that in order for filters to be categorized as HEPA, they must have the ability to trap 99.97% of particles with a size of 0.3 microns or larger. This includes a range of pollutants and allergens such as pollen, pet dander, dust and…smoke. Winix True HEPA Filters exceed this requirement by capturing 99.99%* of airborne particles as small as 0.003 microns in size!

Carbon filters are also imperative in the fight against tobacco odor. Winix tackles odors with highly effective Activated Carbon Filters. These filters are composed of their namesake – activated carbon! Millions of small, absorbent pores make up these filters and because of this, they are able to increase the surface area available for absorption of odors.

If you’re ready to tackle the presence of unpleasant tobacco odor, incorporating an air purifier is the first step in the right direction. But remember, it’s important that both a True HEPA Filter and Activated Carbon Filter are being used. Only this powerful combination will specifically capture unwanted odors and leave you with a space that you, your family, and guests can enjoy.
