5500-2 Air Purifier in living room with mom and daughter on couch

It’s no secret that an air purifier is good for your health, however it is often overlooked as a solution to the health of your home! Incorporating an air purifier not only helps rid the air of allergens and contaminants from entering your lungs, but also from finding a resting place on your furniture. We usually rid our homes of dust upon first sight but by the time dust has built that visible layer, you’ve already been breathing in its combination of organic and inorganic particles – and its already been embedded into your homes most comfortable places.

Naturally occurring dust inside of a home contains pet hair and dander, human skin cells, food particles, pollen, and rodent/insect waste. While humans have their own ‘filtration system’ to keep large particles out, smaller particles like those found in fabric fibers, tend to make their way into our lungs. The key to eliminating dust mites in your furniture is capturing them before they have a place to land – and well before you have a chance to then nestle into them. An air purifier offers this solution as it grabs these particles while they’re suspended in the air.

According to the American Lung Association, “exposure to dust mites at home can dramatically impact the health of people with asthma and those who are allergic or particularly sensitive to mites.” These allergy flare ups result in headaches, difficulty breathing, irritated eyes, and sneezing. Asthma is also intensified with the presence of dust, leaving sufferers relying on medication to avoid an asthma attack. Dust doesn’t just affect our lungs; it can cause skin issues to arise that range from simple itching to harmful dermatitis. The American College of Allergy, Asthma, & Immunology states, exposure to dust can result in sneezing, runny/stuffy nose, red/itchy/teary eyes, wheezing, coughing, tightness in the chest, and shortness of breath. Luckily, these risks can be reduced.

There are several recommendations when it comes to tackling and eliminating this health trigger, but a common suggestion is introducing an air purifier into your home. It’s imperative that the air purifier contain a HEPA filter. According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), only these filters will capture the most penetrating particle size. Fortunately, every Winix air purifier contains a True HEPA filter. Winix True HEPA filters capture 99.99%* of airborne particles as small as 0.003 microns in size.

We can’t eliminate dust entirely, but the combination of cleaning and an air purifier can significantly reduce its presence. While you work on dusting your surfaces, Winix works in eliminating the presence of particles suspended in the air, ensuring the best air and better health for you and your family.
