Air Purifiers
A Painting Necessity

Ready to give your place a fresh look with some fresh paint? Although you’re excited to get this project started (and you should be!) you may have not thought of the fumes that are going to come along with it. That ‘fresh paint smell’ contains a mixture of chemicals and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that you or your family should not be breathing in.

You’ve laid out the painting tarps, put up the masking tape, and equipped yourself with painting tools. You’ve protected your floors, ceilings, and trim – but what about your lungs? The fumes that are about to be released when you open that fresh can of paint can linger for weeks…and so can its VOCs.

According to Consumer Reports, VOCs can cause acute symptoms, including headaches and dizziness. In addition, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) states that VOCs have the potential to adversely impact the health of people that are exposed. This statement isn’t hard to believe as by definition, the EPA states that VOC’s contain formaldehyde, d-Limonene, toluene, acetone, ethanol (ethyl alcohol) 2-propanol (isopropyl alcohol), and hexanal. The American Lung Association also explains that “Breathing VOCs can irritate the eyes, nose, and throat, can cause difficulty breathing and nausea, and can damage the central nervous system as well as other organs. Some VOCs can cause cancer.”

Now, this isn’t a reason to put your painting on hold! But incorporating an air purifier might be that extra touch (and safety precaution) your project needs. The American Lung Association recommends keeping a window open for proper ventilation as an effective way to combat these effects. Having a window open isn’t always an option but you can help to increase indoor air quality and combat VOCs with Winix.

Each Winix air purifier is equipped with filters that specifically combat the presence of VOCs. Winix VOC fighting filters include an Activated Carbon Filter, Coated DeOdorization (CD) Carbon Filter, and a Washable AOCTM Carbon Filter; you’ll see one of these three in each Winix air purifier.

With the use of a Winix air purifier, there’s no need to part with your upcoming painting project or jeopardize you or your family’s air quality. You’ll all be able to enjoy the look of a freshly painted wall while your Winix tackles the ‘not so attractive’ aspects of a fresh look.
