As a reader of this blog, you know we’ve discussed the many benefits of using a humidifier in your home. According to the American Pet Products Association (APPA), “67% of U.S. households own a pet, which equates to 84.9 million homes.” With so many animal lovers across the nation, you’d likely agree that we all want what’s best for our animals. The APPA also states that a whopping $30.2 billion will be spent on veterinary care this year alone! Here’s how a humidifier can help your pet family members and perhaps keep those vet bills at bay.

Just like you, our pets can suffer from the negative effects of dry air. When our home lacks essential moisture, our pets may display symptoms of dry skin and irritated eyes. The signs include frequent itching, the presence of flaking or dander, pacing, and sensitivity when you go to pet them. Increasing the humidity level in your home eases these ailments for both you and your animals. It’s recommended that the humidity range to keep your pets comfortable is between 40 and 60 percent. Ironically, this is the same recommended humidity range for humans and plants!

Another added benefit of humidifier use is if your beloved pet suffers from allergies. You’ve more than likely experienced seasonal allergies and you’re well aware it can leave you feeling sick as a dog. Humidity counteracts many allergy related symptoms in both humans and animals in the same way. Added moisture lessens congestion and allows their airways to open, resulting in a pet that breathes easier.
